The VP, Data Warehouse Engineering will spearhead HealthVerity’s mission to scale and optimize the most extensive and diverse healthcare data ecosystem in the United States. This pivotal role is tailor-made for a visionary data and technology leader with deep expertise in cutting-edge data warehousing design and operations. You'll drive innovation to seamlessly integrate one of the country’s largest sets of healthcare data sources, designing systems to support tens of thousands of future suppliers with unparalleled reliability and agility. Beyond integration, you’ll architect scalable infrastructures that power the rapid development and deployment of new, groundbreaking healthcare data products. What you will do
- Refine and execute a strategic vision and roadmap for the enterprise data warehouse.
- Oversee the architecture and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to manage large-scale healthcare data from hundreds of sources, emphasizing quality, governance, and onboarding efficiency.
- Leverage a customer-focused, product-driven approach to build innovative and modern data and software solutions.
- Implement and refine modern software and data engineering practices, leveraging source control, unit and integration testing, CI/CD workflows, etc.
- Implement and refine modern data observability and quality practices across all active data pipelines.
- Develop and mentor leaders across the Data as a Service organization, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Recruit, retain, and lead a high-performing team of data management, engineering, and software professionals.
- Collaborate with data partners and clients to strengthen relationships, resolve complex issues, and align roadmaps.
- Manage and optimize departmental budgets to ensure effective resource allocation and maximize impact.
- Work with executive stakeholders to translate business strategies into actionable, long-term technology roadmaps.
- Recommend and implement advancements in data technology, infrastructure, and information security.
- Drive continuous improvement through best practices and operational excellence.
- Oversee reference data systems to ensure consistency, accuracy, and usability across datasets.
- Coach teams to enhance critical thinking, technical, and analytical capabilities.
- Define and monitor KPIs to ensure the data warehouse team meets performance goals and aligns with organizational objectives.
Required skills and experience
- Extensive experience leading high-complexity data management and data warehousing architecture, development and operations at multi-petabyte scale.
- Proven ability in resource planning and allocation to ensure on-time, high-quality project delivery while meeting organizational goals.
- Expertise with modern technologies, including AWS, Databricks, Spark, and the development of modern ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Expertise implementing and training modern agile development practice across data and engineering teams
- Familiarity and experience working with transactional and clinical healthcare data and data standards, and with healthcare data warehouse design and operation.
- 8+ years of experience with cloud-native and commercially available data and data warehouse platform tools.
- Hands-on experience using distributed computing for high-performance data manipulation at scale.
- Deep knowledge of designing, deploying, and managing reliable, scalable data pipelines with automated ingestion and normalization.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing day-to-day customer needs with strategic collaboration across engineering, product, and commercial teams.
We prioritize hiring team members from the Philadelphia area whenever possible, as our main office is located in Center City, Philadelphia, where we operate on a hybrid model with in-office work required two days a week. However, for certain roles, we’re also open to hiring from our hub locations, where we have groups of remote workers. Please note that, due to tax and labor regulations, we can only hire from specific states, but remote work is supported in the following key hubs and approved states:
