theSkimm is hiring a Product Marketing Contractor. The Product Marketing Contractor will drive product marketing initiatives related to theSkimm’s consumer subscript product. Product Marketing is critical in ensuring our users have the best possible experience across Skimm+, from initial product awareness through to post-launch support. This individual will have an eye to the future, building the runway for scalable revenue growth tied to product launches. This role requires a strategic thinking with a passion for research, storytelling, content, and innovations.

How you’ll contribute to our mission

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and iterate upon comprehensive marketing and growth strategies related to Skimm_ with detailed customer acquisition, retention, and go-to-market strategies. Oversee and execute upon this strategy to drive new and recurring revenue and overall growth.
  • Lead creation of messaging, UX copy, and collateral to effectively communicate to target audiences.
  • Define business metrics, measurement plans, to continuously measure and optimize your product marketing initiates.
  • Partner with the growth marketing team on the creation of compelling and effective marketing campaigns across various channels, including digital, social media, email, and offline channels.
  • Collaborate with product teams to develop and refine the product roadmap to address customer needs and new opportunities and to distill features and benefits of major launches into positioning and messaging.
  • Conduct customer interviews and gather feedback to understand pain points and customer needs, to inform product development and marketing strategies
  • Analyze market trends, customer behavior, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and optimize marketing strategies.
  • Manage stakeholder communications. Set and continually manage expectations.
  • Spearhead the communication strategy for crucial changes in product functionality, lifecycle, and pricing, both internally and externall

You’re ready for this! Here’s a bit more about what we’re looking for

  • A minimum of 5-6 years of editorial experience, ideally including money and career content
  • 5+ years experience with DTC subscription businesses and fluency in digital marketing, advertising, product management, growth tactics, and social media.
  • Ability to gather and interpret data from various sources to provide actionable insights and recommendations for product positioning.
  • Strong general marketing skills with a passion for winning over the customer.
  • Experience working with users to develop compelling success stories and testimonials that drive brand credibility.
  • Strong understanding of B2C/ DTC marketing strategies, user acquisition, product testing, product analytics, and flywheel methodology.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience with marketing automation tools, CRM systems, affiliates, influencers, and analytics platforms.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience managing and measuring marketing performance in various channels
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take risks and move into uncharted territory

This is a short-term, contract position for 3 months. The expected rate for this role is $10,000 each month. We’ll consider a variety of factors when determining the offered base salary including an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, abilities, experience, location, market demands, and internal parity.

What about the office?

This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work.

Our office is available to use four days a week — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We have a hybrid environment and ask that full-time employees within the New York Metro area come together in person two days a week. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in New York and will adjust this plan accordingly.
