We are actively seeking an experienced Software Engineer Team Lead for our Skimlinks Junior Engineering team in Budapest. This position is based in Budapest, Hungary, reports to the Chief Architect, and is a part of our EU Engineering team. This position plays a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining our core Skimlinks platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficiency, bridging the gap between product vision and technical execution, while fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

The successful candidate should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, proven experience leading engineering teams, strong problem-solving and communication skills, fluency in English and Hungarian, and programming experience in Python, Java, or similar. Additional experience in cloud platforms and artificial intelligence are highly valued.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership and Mentorship:
    • Provide leadership for a team of Junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, support, and continuous improvement.
    • Mentor and guide team members, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • System Development and Architecture:
    • Develop systems across our platform; from data collection, through to backend services and RESTful APIs.
    • Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust systems, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Product Collaboration and Requirements:
    • Collaborate with our product and commercial teams to understand the needs of the market and our customers; and how they can be translated into engineering solutions.
    • Work closely with product and engineering teams to discuss and agree on technical solutions.
    • Take personal ownership of the projects in scope and ensure that all work meets user and commercial objectives.
  • Development Practices and Standards:
    • Be an active participant in our development environment, and communicate the best development practices within the organization (code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD).
  • Cloud Infrastructure:
    • Design, build, and maintain projects within our cloud platform (Google Cloud), from high-volume data ingestion, automated scalability, through to serverless services and securing APIs.
    • Experience setting up and tuning monitoring to efficiently detect and predict issues.

What are the skills a Software Engineer, Team Lead needs to have?

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Programming experience in one of: Python, Java, or similar.
  • Good knowledge of SQL and database systems.
  • Desire to learn and develop professionally.
  • You’re recognised by your peers as talented, driven, and fun to work with.

Nice to haves include:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (ideally Google Cloud)
  • Managing complex data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Interest in artificial intelligence
  • Hardcore table football, ping pong, or darts skills
