Principal Level Designer

Scopely is looking for a Principal Level Designer to join our team developing an unannounced and groundbreaking new title with a popular IP. Our game is F2P (mobile + PC) and approaching pre-production. We are looking for someone in Culver City on a hybrid basis or remotely in the US!

What You Will Do
- Drive the level design (open world and instanced) for a free-to-play open world adventure game while serving Content, Gameplay, and Creative goals
- Create 3D open-worlds, as well as instanced levels, with a focus on playable edges, surfaces, and interiors that support creative traversal, exploration, and gameplay mechanics
- Collaborate with the Directors of Content, Gameplay, and Art to establish best practices for level design to maximize development productivity and consistency
- Work directly with engineering to understand and inform how to build dynamically generated levels
- Mentor and guide junior designers while setting and maintaining quality standards
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies relating to game level design
- Identify and advocate for tools and processes that will enable ease of use and scalability when creating levels
- Understand our audience at a deep, empathetic level, and formulate solutions that respond to the needs of various player segments
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in game level design, with at least 3 years in a leadership or equivalent role
- Proven experience creating playable levels utilizing landmarking, positive/negative space, and traversal elements to bring worlds to life
- Deep understanding of how level design drives flow, pacing, and storytelling
- Ability to be creative, both with minimal direction and while working within tight constraints
- Have worked on or shipped titles within the adventure and/or open world genres
- Experience with AAA engines and editors (e.g. Unity or Unreal)
- Experience developing and operating free-to-play games
- Experience working on projects in the pre-production phase
- Ability to thrive in an environment where feedback, playtesting, and data are used to drive continuous improvement through iteration
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present and articulate game design concepts to team members, as well as senior management
- Ability to anticipate production and identify potential roadblocks in design
- A passion for video games and the adventure genre, with a deep understanding of core game mechanics and game design principles
- Passion for mobile games

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
