Position Overview:

The Art Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the strategy and execution of creative projects, ensuring the output of designers aligns with the Zelis brand identity and meets the highest standards of creativity and innovation. They will collaborate with the Brand and Content team, Marketing Leadership, and other stakeholders within Zelis to develop and execute compelling visuals that effectively communicate complex concepts and our brand through various content forms.

This person is organized, flexible, self-motivated, thrives in a deadline-driven atmosphere, and demonstrates strong leadership qualities. They prioritize tasks strategically and can manage resources effectively. This person exhibits strong attention to detail, responds positively to feedback, can provide constructive feedback, and is comfortable managing expectations. They are an eager learner, ahead of the latest design trends, and well-versed in industry and creative best practices.

The Expectations:

  • Design strategy: Build and execute creative concepts, designs, and layouts for various marketing materials, including print and digital ads, social media content, marketing collateral, design systems, storyboards, and other promotional materials. Present and communicate design concepts and strategies to internal stakeholders, providing clear rationale and justifications for creative decisions. This person will also understand how to translate complex technology concepts into simple, stunning designs.

  • Team management: Lead and manage a team of designers, providing guidance, feedback, mentorship, and support to ensure the successful execution of projects. This person communicates effectively and often, ensuring that projects are delegated effectively and designers are equipped to deliver strong outcomes. When needed, the art director works closely with external contractors and/or vendors to ensure the successful production and delivery of materials.

  • Collaborate by default: Collaborate with stakeholders across Zelis to understand project objectives, target audience, and deadlines, ensuring the project output aligns with the overall brand strategy and style guide. This person is organized and manages with transparency.

  • Project management: This person demonstrates effective time management, enabling them to simultaneously manage multiple projects with tight deadlines, ensuring deadlines are met, resources are allocated effectively, and output is high quality.

  • Technical skills: The art director is comfortable using industry-standard design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, and others. They demonstrate familiarity with project management tools and how to manage tasks in a platform like Wrike. This person is familiar with following an in-house style guide and respecting what’s already in place, while looking at ways to evolve the brand.

About You:

  • 7-10+ years of experience in a similar leadership role or with extensive design experience.

  • Have a passion for translating brand or product stories through visual media.

  • Strong portfolio that demonstrates highly refined design skills across many various media types (e.g., print, digital, illustration, video).

  • Collaborative style in a fast-paced environment, highly adaptable and able to work with speed and agility under pressure.

  • Understands how to work in an agile environment while maintaining a positive demeanor and sense of humor.

  • Healthcare and/or technology industry experience a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience required; Master’s preferred.
