The Senior SQL Server Performance Tuning Database Administrator is responsible for the performance, reliability, and scalability of the organization’s current MS SQL Server database environments as well as the design, construction, and population of our new technology database schemas/environments.

From a day-to-day perspective, this position will be responsible to drive efforts to implement and/or refine operational and business continuity processes such as performance tuning, availability groups, clustering, mirroring, backups and high availability. Additionally, tasks include supporting our production and development MS SQL Server databases and ensuring their performance, availability, recovery, maintain security and utilization.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior SQL Server Performance Tunning Database Administrator will be responsible for working closely with a team of SQL Server DBA professionals, providing leadership in performance tuning, design, architecting, maintaining, securing and providing on-call support for HA database systems (On-Prem and Cloud)

  • Subject matter expert in MS SQL Server performance tuning

  • Provide leadership in creating roadmaps and future state architecture of SQL Server platform collaborating with stake holders and business partners.

  • Participate proactively in daily stand-up meetings, story grooming sessions, team retrospectives, suggesting and implementing improvements.

  • Ensure performance, security, scalability and availability of enterprise MS SQL databases.

  • Perform technical troubleshooting to diagnose, isolate and correct data and database issues.

  • Research emerging trends and new technologies to identify potential improvements.

  • Anticipates issues and develops preventive measures.

  • Collaborate with clients, service providers and peers to successfully deliver on business commitments.

  • Negotiate solutions for issues that may be complex or controversial.

  • Design, implement and monitor disaster recovery plans as it pertains to the production database environment.

  • Strong TSQL and PowerShell knowledge; able to write and read as well as diagnose, develop and troubleshoot scripts.

  • Work with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Identify high-load SQL statements.

  • Gather performance-related data

  • Determine Inefficiently designed SQL statements.

  • Identify Suboptimal execution plans.

  • Identify and resolve missing, unused, and indexes that need enhancements.

  • Identify stale statistics.

  • Identify suboptimal hardware performance related to memory pressure, I/O, and CPU.

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in MSSQL Server (version 2019) in an enterprise level environment.

  • Strong performance tuning experience

  • Experience with managing large-scale, complex database environments supporting complex/critical applications.

  • Lead level expertise in MSSQL database platform

  • Major ticketing system

  • Architect level experience

  • Work on-call once every 6 weeks

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Familiarity with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence

  • Knowledge of PowerShell
