Position Overview

Zelis is seeking an experienced and strategic Manager of Site Reliability Engineering to lead and evolve its Enterprise Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. This role is responsible for driving reliability, scalability, and performance across critical systems while leading a team of specialized engineers focused on observability and major incident management. The Manager will set the vision for SRE practices, ensure operational excellence, and foster strong collaboration across engineering, infrastructure, and product teams. This leader will champion automation, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making to deliver highly available and resilient platforms that support business objectives and user needs.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of Site Reliability Engineers, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Define and drive the strategy for reliability, observability, and operational excellence.

  • Provide the framework of reliability that can be measured and reported to our customers with the proper processes in place to scale.

  • Establish and monitor SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs to ensure system performance, availability, and health.

  • Play a critical role in major incidents by leading mitigation of said incidents including communication to internal and external audiences, driving rapid resolution and blameless postmortems.

  • Partner with other groups in IT Operations, Database Engineering, and Hosting to build, improve, and solidify the Site Reliability core objectives

  • Establish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teams and organizational boundaries

  • Drive automation to reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and enhance system resilience.

  • Advance observability practices, including monitoring, alerting, and tracing using tools.

  • Align team goals with business priorities and hold the team accountable to measurable outcomes.

  • Establish KPIs for reliability, performance, and incident response.

  • Communicate system performance, risks, and trends to senior leadership.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, tool improvements, and operational efficiency.

  • Promote a culture of learning, documentation, and continuous improvement.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 12+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, IT Operations, or related disciplines.

  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing technical teams.

  • Strong expertise in SRE principles, including observability, incident management, and post-incident analysis.

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., New Relic, LogicMonitor, Azure ARC, AWS CloudWatch).

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Java, C#, JavaScript).

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform).

  • Knowledge of database systems (SQL and NoSQL) and performance optimization techniques.

  • Familiarity with vulnerability management frameworks and tools (e.g., OWASP, Nessus).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, CISSP) are a plus.

  • Experience managing distributed or global teams is preferred.
