Position Overview

The AI Engineer will design, develop, and productionize AI/GenAI solutions across the Zelis ecosystem using Enterprise ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, AWS Bedrock, internal APIs, and modern automation frameworks.
This role builds the foundational components, agents, integrations, and reusable patterns that enable business, corporate, and operational teams to become self-reliant in adopting AI.
Work closely with US matrix leaders, Engineering, and Product teams to align AI builds to enterprise roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities

AI Engineering & Agent Development

• Build LLM-driven agents (single/multi-agent architectures) using AWS Bedrock, Python, LangChain, and internal API frameworks.

• Develop reusable patterns for RAG, orchestration, embeddings, guardrails, and workflow automation.

• Integrate AI capabilities into COTS platforms (Salesforce, Workday, Onbase, ServiceNow, Jira, etc.).

• Build and manage – where relevant – vector databases, prompt repositories, prompt versioning systems, and retrieval pipelines.

• Build “AI accelerators” (templates, starter kits, best-practice libraries) used across the enterprise.

• Implement secure prompt engineering, data redaction, context window optimization, and model selection frameworks.

• Partner with business teams to co-develop AI prototypes and convert them into scalable solutions. Develop agent-led automation for the business, corporate functions – as demanded.

Cloud native AI services

• • Build production-grade AI APIs on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Bedrock, Step Functions).

  • Implement monitoring, LLM telemetry, evaluation pipelines, and health checks.

  • Optimize cost/performance for AI workloads, including model selection, caching, and inference routing.

  • Governance, Safety & Responsible AI

  • • Implement guardrails, access controls, audit logs, privacy compliance, and hallucination reduction frameworks. Follow Zelis guidelines & policies and conduct internal audits periodically for adherence checks.

    • Support the AI QA team in model evaluation, dataset creation, benchmark design, and safety testing.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years in software engineering or applied ML engineering, with hands-on LLM experience.

• Experience with AWS Bedrock (Claude, Llama, Titan), Python, LangChain, vector DBs.

• Familiarity with GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, or similar GenAI tools.

• Strong API development skills (Flask/FastAPI/Lambda).

• Strong knowledge / applied understanding of healthcare claims processing, payments, pricing, provider networks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with agentic systems, tool calling, or workflow automation.

• Knowledge of healthcare operations / fintech.

• Hands-on experience building RAG systems, guardrails, and prompt frameworks.
