Ocient is a hyperscale data solutions company headquartered in Chicago, IL, enabling organizations to analyze trillions to quadrillions of data records in seconds. Over the past five years, Ocient has built a SQL compliant data warehouse for Petabyte and beyond datasets that is 10x to 50x times faster than competitive OLAP databases.

Position Overview

Ocient is looking for ultimate team players who are dedicated to improving our product and customer experience with every interaction. A deep understanding of the end-to-end sales, development, and delivery cycle is key to adding unique value to the organization. Our ideal Technical Product Manager is adept at translating customers business problems around massive-scale data analytics into technical requirements that developers can easily consume. They are driven to build enjoyable products, solve complex problems, and push the bounds of what is possible with performance and scale. Ocient Product Managers are self-motivated, enthusiastic leaders. They work directly with every part of the internal Ocient organization helping drive complex database features to successful completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with other Product members, Ocient teams, and partners to translate customer business problems into technical specifications for sets of features.

  • Participating in the prioritization process to identify which features deliver the highest value.

  • Owning and developing the roadmap for key areas of the Ocient database. This might include components like streaming, loading, UI, the SQL engine, and others.

  • Working closely with engineering to communicate the requirements and acceptance plan for the features you manage. Contributing to feature design from a user perspective.

  • Understanding and tracking the positioning of your parts of the database with respect to where customers and our competition are headed.

  • Interacting with the Product Research team to plan benchmarks and demos around new features associated with the areas you own.

  • Working closely with support to identify technical challenges, areas to improve our user experience, and opportunities for customers to self-serve.

Qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or related technical field

  • 5+ years of product management experience or closely working with product management

  • 5+ years of database experience

  • A passion for large-scale data management, analytics, and enterprise-level problems

  • Background working with databases on-premise, in the cloud, and running as a service

  • An intermediate understanding of SQL, database HA/DR, and database security

  • Ability to drive complex projects with many moving parts

  • Excellent technical and non-technical written and oral communication in English

  • Ideal candidates will also have spent some time working in engineering
