The Senior Software Architect will be a hands-on technology leader who is responsible for providing the architecture, design, and implementation for MX’s differentiated products and services, taking best practices that embody modern, cloud-based, purpose-built design patterns. This role will dramatically raise the standards for technical excellence for MX engineerings in building scalable, secure, and high quality products and services.
Working closely with product and engineering managers, technical ICs, this role serves as a thoughtful multiplier across product engineering delivery teams to deliver strategic roadmap.
This role is critical for delivering on MX’s strategic roadmap and differentiated products that strengthen MX’s competitive advantage.
What Success Looks Like
Bring industry and domain expertise. You bring the latest industry expertise in fintech, Data/AI, Risk/Fraud, and Service Oriented Architecture to engineering. You continuously raise the bar of building and optimizing for scalable, high-quality, cloud-based, industry-leading products and services. This includes but is not limited to:
Lay out the foundational architecture for brand new strategic bets on the product roadmap, help the team make sound tradeoffs and strike the balance between time-to-market and high-quality to launch MVPs.
Instrument and implement best practices to close critical performance gaps in the product for delightful customer experience. Ensure that the SLOs for end-to-end services maintain industry standards and competitiveness.
Be a cross-functional multiplier. You promote cross-team technical alignment. This includes but is not limited to:
Mentor and coach junior engineers to grow in technical skills by thinking about global scale, security, performance and cost efficiency as service owners.
Bring transparency and visibility cross functionally: product, engineering, executives, by articulating technical tradeoffs and risks with clear documentation and artifacts.
Core Responsibilities
Deep technical analysis on strategic product initiatives, lay out foundational architecture and design in MX’s eco-systems. Drive technical implementation of high-quality MVPs.
Identify opportunities for performance improvement on critical products and services and implement solutions to close the gaps.
Analyze and implement improvements of end-to-end data ingest, analytics, and recommend how AI can be leveraged to provide efficiency and competitive advantage.
Drive architecture and design reviews, multiply knowledge and principles to the technical staff. Be an active member of architecture discussions that require rethinking or changing technology approaches, such as cloud strategy.
What You Bring
A skilled, enthusiastic technologist with strategic thinking and business acumen, leading through influence rather than authority.
15+ years of software development experience, with a Bachelor’s or a Master’s Degree.
Fluency with Node.js, Ruby, Go, Java, OLT/AP, event-driven architectures.
Expert hands-on knowledge in OAuth, Data Analytics, Risk and Fraud platforms, as well as cloud (AWS, GCP).
Expert hands-on knowledge in defining service SLOs using customer experiences as a north star. Deep understanding of instrumentation at the system level to achieve SLO attainments, with cost efficiency.
Expert hands-on knowledge building services with agility (cycle time) and utilizing CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployability, as well as operability/observability.
Exposure to building and operating software in a heavily regulated industry.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including diagramming and technical documentation.
