About Taxually
Taxually Taxually is a B2B SaaS tax-compliance platform operating across 105+ jurisdictions and 12 legal entities. With marquee partners, and one of Europe’s largest financial investor among its shareholders, the business is preparing for its next phase over the coming 12 months. Your future colleagues: a small, high-output team in close cooperation with the management, running multiple transformation projects.
Role & Team
The role is a mid-senior position in a dynamic, small team with the opportunity to gradually take ownership of parts of the financial controlling and compliance agenda with a clear path to Deputy Head of Controlling in 12–18 months. Efficiently collaborating with external accountants, auditors, advisors and internal stakeholders is a key part of the role.
Our finance team is proud to be a proactive and reliable partner to the business units and the management. We work in an international setting, use and co-build AI and technology solutions to simplify process and improve efficiency. We value commitment, competence and consistency and give a high degree of freedom to our team members to shape and develop our future together.
What you will do
- Financial Controlling & Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Drive variance analysis (Budget vs. Actuals) and identify actionable insights to optimize operational costs. After an initial handover period, take over monthly close execution (incl. intercompany reconciliation) and progressively automate the mechanical layer via a data warehouse solution and AI agents in close collaboration with the Finance Data & Reporting lead.
- Process Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in our current financial workflows and implement scalable automation. Help upgrade and maintain our financial software and agent stack.
- Finance Operations: Lead core operational finance processes including Accounts Payable and expense management. Ensure seamless bank reconciliations and smooth payroll (which are led by HR). You will act as the named deputy across tax, audit, and transfer pricing—serving as the first point of coverage when the Head of Controlling is unavailable, handling queries independently.
- Compliance & Audit: Ensure statutory compliance, manage local filings with tax advisors and accountants, and act as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Lead at least one audit within 12 months — coordinating with auditors, preparing evidence packs, etc..
- Where needed prepare and update internal process documentation, SOPs covering close, tax, TP preparation, and entity-level accounting.
- Supervise and develop junior support, providing guidance, review, escalation path, and structured feedback as they take on execution tasks.
What we are looking for
Qualifications
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) are a strong plus but not mandatory.
- Fluent English. Hungarian is a plus but not mandatory.
Experience
- 5+ years in accounting, financial operations or financial control, with at least 3 years owning a multi-entity or group close in a hands-on role (not oversight only).
- Background in SaaS, tech, or scale-up: understands subscription revenue, recurring vs. non-recurring treatment, deferred revenue, and the pace of change that comes with rapid scaling.
- Direct experience coordinating external audits with mid-tier or Big 4 firms, not just feeding documents, but (co-)managing the process, handling auditor queries, and running to sign-off.
- European tax knowledge: VAT, CIT, and local-tax compliance; comfort navigating entity-level filing in a multi-country group.
- Transfer pricing fundamentals: familiarity with Master File / Local File, intercompany charges, and arm's-length documentation, and working with advisors.
- Deep expertise in Excel, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI). Advanced Xero, Joiin or comparable cloud fintech software (able to configure, troubleshoot, and own the accounts). Initial experience with AI agents is a plus.
Personal attributes
- Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to synthesize complex data sets into clear executive summaries and operational metrics
- High-output. Comfortable in a dynamic, small team focusing on achievements not corporate politics. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves for routine tasks while maintaining a strategic view of company finances.
- Leadership intent. Actively wants the leadership track — not as a title aspiration but because they want to be the person the compliance function runs on, not around.
- AI-positive. Engages with automation and AI as genuine levers: expected to use and support the development of the data warehouse, the close agent.
Why this role, why now
You will own the financial operations and controlling backbone of an exceptional company in one of the most structurally interesting moments in our industry. The finance function is small enough that your work is visible and consequential, and the path to Deputy Controller is 12–18 months, not five years.
