Director of Base & Subscription Marketing; reports to CMO

Background (on the ‘Roo): Kangaroo’s mission is to put security within everyone’s reach, empowering consumers with solutions that are easy-to-use, affordable, and thoughtfully designed. Kangaroo is a challenger brand focused on dethroning category incumbents and catering to those who want reliable, well-designed security, at a price that respects their money. Whether starting with something as simple as our Doorbell Camera, or selecting a full home security kit, Kangaroo makes it simple to know what’s happening at home, from your phone.

As a business, we’re DTS (Direct to Subscriber), not DTC. The team’s total focus revolves around growing our subscriber base. Kangaroo Complete, our paid subscription service, unlocks a suite of extended security features, including Professional Monitoring. At just $10/month, Kangaroo Complete is a market-leading offer for plans that include Professional Monitoring. We acquire subscribers both directly at the point-of-sale (website) with pre-bundled offers, and through post-purchase base marketing activities (e.g. in-app and email). Outside of our website, most customers will first purchase hardware and then have the opportunity to add Kangaroo Complete during activation, or anytime thereafter.

The Role (you’ll love): We’re on the hunt for a passionate, talented product marketing leader to set strategies, programs, and communications that maximize our subscription attach rate. You’ll be charged with managing multiple segments and creating pathways to subscription for each. Whether it's direct to subscription or an upsell to a more robust Kangaroo solution, you’ll work closely with customer service, product, UX, and various teams to analyze and audit our current efforts and to establish and implement a comprehensive plan of action, actively measuring program results. You’ll also be integral to the Marketing plan as a whole, helping to inform activities that increase the likelihood of subscription attach rate at the point-of-sale or within the first 30 days of activation. Finally, you’ll be responsible for managing our subscribers throughout their lifecycle, developing programs that increase their satisfaction and reduce the likelihood of plan churn.

The Job (summarized): Define and execute a robust and comprehensive strategy, roadmap, and subscription marketing plan to maximize attach rate - this includes establishing customer segments and strategies associated with each. Create a full customer lifecycle view which defines how / where and with what products we can most effectively engage with our users to drive subscriptions. Build a “first 30 days” strategy to drive attach rate among new users. Build full lifecycle customer-value programs that increase revenue, loyalty, and satisfaction. Manage plan retention and renewal. Play an integral role in partnership programs, ensuring we hit key activation, usage metrics. Influence and lead implementation of base marketing activities and communications. Manage databases, and report on performance, KPIs and customer tendencies or trends. Work closely with Customer Service, Design, Marketing, and Engineering to define and develop detailed product/ business requirements. Evaluate new product opportunities and bring forward proposals for products to expand the value-added services product line. Influence product strategy and direction (roadmap), and product and user experience.

The Qualifications (of a perfect match): The ideal candidate will be an analytics-led thought leader who is driven, collaborative, and has the vision and management skills to positively influence the organization’s business and culture. 5+ years Relevant Experience: Marketing, Product Marketing, Product Management; strong preference for candidates that have excelled at SaaS or subscription businesses Analytics-biased: Must be data-led and comfortable working with technical platforms. Strong project management and technical skills: Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple parties, build consensus and confidence, and to deliver an outcome - on-time, on-spec; technical proficiency including basic CSS/HTML skills is also preferred. Creative thinker, self-starter: An entrepreneurial spirit is wanted; candidates should be able to point to ways that they’ve influenced businesses and through innovative or creative ideas.
True Collaborator: Undisputed ability to build relationships and work with others in a fluid, fast-paced and evolving startup environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills: Your resume will be considered a reflection of your work product.
A love of being Davey (vs. Goliath)!
