The Role: The AVP, Ethics & Conduct Risk at Flutterwave is a senior leadership position responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's ethics and compliance program. This role ensures that Flutterwave operates with integrity and in accordance with legal and regulatory standards, promoting a culture of ethical behaviour and decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development and Implementation
    1. Develop and implement a comprehensive ethics and corporate compliance program that aligns with Flutterwave's strategic goals and values.
    2. Establish policies, procedures, and standards to ensure ethical conduct and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
    3. Continuously update the program to reflect changes in legislation, regulatory environments, and industry best practices.
  2. Training and Education
    1. Design and deliver ethics training programs for all employees, including onboarding sessions and regular refresher courses.
    2. Promote awareness of ethical standards and compliance requirements through various communication channels.
  3. Monitoring and Reporting
    1. Implement systems to monitor compliance with ethical standards and regulations.
    2. Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and address potential risks and areas of non-compliance.
    3. Prepare and present detailed reports on the status of the ethics program to senior management and the board of directors.
  4. Investigation and Resolution
    1. Oversee the investigation of alleged violations of ethical standards, policies, and regulations.
    2. Ensure that all reported concerns are addressed promptly and impartially.
    3. Develop corrective action plans and ensure their effective implementation.
  5. Advisory and Support
    1. Provide expert advice to management and employees on ethical issues and decision-making.
    2. Act as a point of contact for ethical concerns, offering guidance and support to resolve dilemmas.
    3. Collaborate with Legal, People & Culture team, and other departments to integrate ethics into business processes and practices.
  6. Culture and Leadership
    1. Champion a culture of integrity and ethical behavior across the organization.
    2. Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to ethical conduct in all actions.
    3. Foster an environment where employees feel comfortable raising concerns and reporting misconduct without fear of retaliation.
  7. Stakeholder Engagement
    1. Engage with external stakeholders, including regulators, customers, and partners, to ensure transparent and ethical business practices.
    2. Represent Flutterwave at industry forums, conferences, and other events related to ethics and compliance.

Required competency and skill set to be a waver (in this role)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ethics, Law, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in ethics, compliance, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the fintech or financial services industry is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of ethics and compliance principles, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of integrity and professional ethics.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or similar are preferred.
