Job Summary

The Infrastructure team provides engineering, design, support, and implementation to on-premise and cloud infrastructure supporting our business applications and capabilities. The Associate Engineer maintains, configures, and troubleshoots infrastructure components to ensure availability of applications. Most will specialize in Engineering in a specific infrastructure domain such as Datacenter Network, Compute, Storage, Voice and Communications, Collaboration Applications, Virtualization and OS, Cloud, Endpoint Management, Mobile Technology, or Infrastructure Tools and Automation. Associate Engineers will have in-depth knowledge of at least one of the infrastructure domains listed above. This position works independently with minimal guidance and direction, may lead projects and serve as a resource or escalation point for other associates.


The Associate Engineer works with a variety of platform groups that utilize technologies such as System Center, VMWare ESX, VCenter and Horizon, Ansible, Azure, AWS, ServiceNow, InfoBlox, Prisma Cloud, Qualys, and Zenoss.


Essential Job Functions

  • Technology: Participates in business projects requiring technical implementation expertise in infrastructure areas, including existing and new builds, and systems integration. Enforces standards to govern Bread Financial system designs and processes. Participates in problems, change management and escalated incidents. Maintains assigned partners to support strategy and architectural design efforts for systems and technology that they support. Works with leader of higher level engineering teams to engage and collaborate with internal/external partners to support technical planning of short to mid-term initiatives. This may include some planning, build requirements, BOM review, service & maintenance contract enforcement, asset management, systems monitoring, automation & performance fine tuning.
  • Relationships: Work to deliver quality, timely results to internal business partners and support groups in relation to areas of responsibility. Participates in business projects requiring technical expertise in areas of responsibility. This includes creating and maintaining supporting documentation, following IT Governance change management policies, and effectively communicating changes to business partners & stakeholders. Provide technical support under some guidance and direction. Works related problems, change management and escalated incidents.
  • Documentation: Creates, reviews, and maintains documentation of deployments, systems, and procedures relating to job/team responsibilities. Produces documentation as requested for internal customers, audits and compliance purposes. Participates in the approval process. Reports and presents quarterly capacity analyses of licensing, equipment, and utilization. Formulates and maintains global and site-specific network Visio drawings and maps, equipment and licensing inventories, and roadmap charts. Maintain our user administration including logins, access, roles, custom/designer report creation that enable the business to monitor and report on performance metrics.
  • Business Knowledge and Project Involvement: Demonstrates a degree of business knowledge within the general financial services and marketing domains. Strive to influence the team to generate support to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Team Collaboration: Cultivates relationships across roles and organizations to maximize collaboration, partnership, and efficiency. Provides feedback formally and informally. Requests and utilize feedback to foster personal development.
  • Distinction: Mobile Device Management - Manage and support mobile device endpoints within company, including BYOD capabilities, mobile apps supporting business software, brand/customer. Securely wipe and manage endpoints as users depart the organization as well as end points that are retired.
  • Distinction: Vendor Relationship Management - Managed Service Provider (MSP) support and accountability for end points deployed for brands. Work with carriers to routinely ensure contracts are optimal to achieve cost savings and accounts are optimized.
  • Distinction: Inventory Management - Accountable for inventory of end point devices
  • Distinction: Vulnerability Management (Mobile devices) - Vulnerability management ensuring all end points are compliant with current Information Security practices

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements: Must maintain currency of technical skills in relevant technologies. May be required to lift up to 80 pounds for installation of equipment (depending on focus of job); 24/7 On-call coverage; may be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends and possibly holidays; May be required to travel domestically 15-20% annually. May be required to go under desks & floor tiles, use ladders/electric lifts move ceiling tiles. Vehicle Operation. MVR will be run after conditional offer of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree Required: High School Diploma
  • One or more years experience as a Systems Administration or Engineering work experience in area of specialization

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science
  • Certifications: ITIL, Azure MCP, VMWare VCP, NetApp Storage, Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Two or more years experience with Infrastructure domain specified in summary (e.g. Datacenter, Virtualization & OS Engineering, Cloud, Tools & Automation)

Salary Range (unless otherwise noted below):

$69,900.00 - $126,600.00

Full Salary Range for position:

California: $80,400.00 - $158,300.00

Colorado: $69,900.00 - $133,000.00

New York: $76,900.00 - $158,300.00

Washington: $73,400.00 - $145,600.00

Maryland: $73,400.00 - $139,300.00

Washington DC: $80,400.00 - $145,600.00

Illinois: $69,900.00 - $139,300.00

New Jersey: $80,400.00 - $145,600.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.

Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
