Job Summary
The Senior Associate Counsel is an in-house counsel role within the Bread Financial’s Legal Department, a collaborative and dynamic legal team providing strategic legal advice in support of credit, loyalty and marketing solutions. This role provides legal counsel to internal leaders (including Director and above) as to issues of a more complex level than assigned to an entry level attorney. The Senior Associate Counsel is responsible for relevant parts of material projects with declining levels of oversite from Director/Sr. Director attorney-in-charge. While exhibiting comfort and capability in advising business partners, including senior leaders, on legal, contract, litigation, and regulatory issues at his/her level, the Senior Associate Counsel applies legal advice in proper context of increasingly complex business situations presented.Job Description
Essential Job Functions
- Contracts/Business Transactions Specific: Serve as first chair and independently lead the negotiation and preparation of complex agreements, including client agreements and/or a wide variety of vendor agreements for critical engagements and relationships. Serve as second chair and provide material support to senior attorneys in the negotiation and preparation of client agreements and/or vendor agreements for complex, business-critical initiatives and programs. Directly advise internal leaders, including SLT and ELT, and SMEs on matters involving complex transactions. Conduct contractual analysis in the context of laws, rulings, and regulations impacting Bread Financial. Coordinate and execute large scale contract research projects and implementation of strategy with respect to completed research. Provide material support on other transactional legal matters, such as intellectual property. Understands business objectives in increasingly complex situations and contextualizes legal advice in light of those objectives. With assistance from senior attorneys, begins to understand enterprise-wide impacts of legal advice.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:
- Normal office environment, some travel may be required
- This position is hybrid with an onsite schedule of 3-4 days per month. In-office requirements are subject to change based on business needs. This position is currently available to candidates that reside within 60 miles of Columbus, OH.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor Law (Licensed to practice law in applicable jurisdiction)
- Three or more years of in-house/agency or comparable private firm experience

Typical Starting Range:
$133,500.00 - $241,900.00Full Salary Range for position:
California: $153,500.00 - $302,400.00Colorado: $133,500.00 - $254,000.00New York: $146,800.00 - $302,400.00Washington: $140,100.00 - $278,200.00The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.
Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.
All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.
Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
